About ELIA Africa

Leading Education, Inspiring Africa

ELIA Africa is redefining education across the continent through innovation, leadership, and purpose-driven impact. We empower educators, elevate learners, and build systems that work for Africa's future.

Our Story

Each year in Nigeria, over two million students sit JAMB examinations. University intake capacity absorbs a small fraction of this cohort. The remainder enter an unstructured waiting period — six months to two years during which academic momentum is lost, practical skills go unbuilt, and motivation erodes.

ELIA Africa was founded to change that. What began in 2017 with borrowed Sunday school rooms and volunteer instructors has grown into a sustained programme that has trained over 10,000 educators, deployed 90+ STEM and STEAM programmes, and served 100+ institutions across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

Our mandate is simple: every student-in-waiting becomes a student-in-progress. No academic gap is wasted time — it is preparation time.

Dr. Adetola Salau

Founder, ELIA Africa

Dr. Adetola Salau founded ELIA Africa with a clear mandate: stop discussing the education gap and start filling it. Beginning in 2017 with borrowed Sunday school rooms and volunteer instructors, she built structured learning programmes that have since expanded from 50 students in Mushin to sustained collaborations with Lagos State, Kwara State, and federal education bodies.

Alumni of her programmes now work at Microsoft, have earned GIZ recognition, and hold scholarships across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She holds a PhD from SUNY Buffalo, has completed the MIT Bootcamp, and has authored 10 books on STEM education.

What We Stand For

The principles that guide every programme, every course, and every decision.

Action Over Aspiration

We favour verbs over nouns. ELIA Africa is about doing, not dreaming. Our founder didn't write a white paper — she secured Sunday school rooms and ran the first camp.

Equity, Not Charity

Grant-supported learners and paying learners have the exact same experience. No degraded interface, no "free tier" labels. Every learner gets the same quality.

Nigerian-First, World-Ready

Every decision starts with the Nigerian learner. If it works on a ₦50,000 phone with 3G in Lagos, it works everywhere. We build for our context first.
